What you can expect

If you’re new to therapy you can expect to come and talk about yourself and your experience of your life. I’ll support you in exploring what meaning you’re making from your experience, looking at areas where you might feel stuck and at new possibilities you might want to grow into.

I work in an embodied way, and I’ll encourage you to become aware of your sensations and feelings in order to understand, and experience, what certain emotions feel like for you. My role as therapist is to support and challenge you, and I won’t shy away from shining a light on areas in your life or meaning making you tend to avoid.

A repeated phrase in Gestalt therapy is “the only goal is awareness.” If you are not aware of your emotions and how they might be leading you to water, a desert, or a stagnating pond, your choices and flexibility are limited. You will continue to play out the patterns that are most comfortable and habitual for you.

When you become aware, choice becomes possible.

There is no right and wrong, only what you choose to do and whether you want more, or less of that.

Reaching out can be scary, uncomfortable, new, and filled with hope. It’s no small thing to ask for support, and it’s no small thing to be vulnerable. If you want to see if therapy with me might be right for you, please contact me.
